Summit City Bicycles along with Park Tool is once again offering the Park Tool School. With over 23 years experience as a mechanic and nine years teaching his own class, Tim Wegner will teach you how to work on your own bike. In a classroom setting with hands on lab work, you can learn how to fix a flat tire, adjust your gears, true your rims, or install a new crankset. Tim has worked at Summit City Bicycles as one our best bicycle mechanics for the last 14 years.

He trains new employees in proper technique for new bicycle assembly. He also specializes in custom Road and Cyclocross builds, is our resident Campagnolo expert, Shimano Di2 certified, WD40 Bike Wrench of the Month (August 2013), tubular tire expert, as well as The QuikStik fastest tire changer in the United States. From basic to advanced, Tim can teach you about bicycle maintenance.


Elite Class

Time: 12 hours, 2 to 4 sessions
Cost: $360.00 Special discount on tools and accessories
Curriculum: This course covers a wide range of topics with much depth. The participants will have a wide variety of skills after completing this clinic. Areas covered include: derailleurs, brakes, wheel truing, bearing adjustments, on trail/road repairs, bike cleaning, and lubrication.
A Park Tool School textbook and shop apron is included at no charge.

Four Mondays:  February 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th.  Four classes, three hour sessions each.  6pm to 9pm.  Please arrive twenty minutes early for the first class for your individual bike inspection.


Beginner Class

Time: 6 hours, 2 to 3 sessions
Cost: $180.00 Special discount on tools and accessories
Curriculum: This course covers a wide range of topics with less detail. Basic skills are covered (wheel installation, lubrication, cleaning, tool usage, fixing a flat) as well as brakes, derailleur, and basic wheel truing.
A Park Tool School textbook is included at no charge.

 Three Wednesdays:  December 4th, 11th, 18th.  Three classes, two hour sessions each. 6pm to 8pm.  Please arrive twenty minutes early for the first class for your individual inspection. 

Three Tuesdays: February 4th, 11th, 18th. Three classes, two hour sessions each. 6pm to 8pm. Please arrive twenty minutes early for the first class for your individual bike inspection. 

 

Drive Train Clinic

Time: 4 hours, 1 to 2 sessions
Cost: $120.00 Special discount on tools and accessories
Curriculum: This course covers the drive train adjustments and service of the crankset, pedals, chainrings, chain, cassette, shift levers, cables, front and rear derailleur, but does not cover any bearing adjustments.
A Park Tool School textbook is included at no charge.

DECEMBER COURSES

Course 1:  Monday, December 2nd and Monday, December 9th

Course 2:  Tuesday, December 10th and Tuesday, December 17th

JANUARY COURSE

Course 3:  Tuesday, January 14th and Wednesday, January 15th

FEBRUARY COURSES

Course 4:  Wednesday, February 5th and Wednesday, February 12th

Course 5:  Wednesday, February 19th and Wednesday, February 26th

Two classes, two hour sessions each.  6:30pm to 8:30pm.    Please arrive twenty minutes early for the first class for your individual inspection.

  

 Introduction Class

Time: 1 hour, 1 session
Cost: $20.00
Curriculum: This course will teach you about your new bicycle or about your current bike. Topics include: Wheel
Installation, flat repair, cleaning, and lubrication, and a pre ride checklist. This course will give you enough information to make your riding more enjoyable and allow you to make ride more intelligently by knowing how your bike works.

PARK TOOL SCHOOL
WINTER 2013-2014 SCHEDULE 

 Classes will be held at Summit City Bicycles & Fitness. Please call to schedule class time.

• Please arrive ten minutes early for an initial inspection of your bicycle.
• You will be working on your own bicycle.
• Tools will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own. That way I can tell what you have and what you might need to successfully fix your bicycle.
• Note taking is encouraged, although the textbook is very informative.
• Custom classes are available, just ask.
• No one will be left behind. We will work at your pace until you understand the concept and can execute the repair.
• Some classes can be taught in small groups of two to four. Ask about group discounts. Please remember though, the more students, the longer it will take to teach and perform each skill. I will not move on until everyone understands the concept.
